Portugal has been awarded the title of “World’s Best Golf Destination” at the 2024 World Golf Awards held in Funchal. Additionally, for the third consecutive year, the country secured the award for “Europe’s Best Golf Destination,” as announced today.
The country’s success as a golfing destination “can be attributed to its integrated tourism experience, excellent air and land accessibility, exceptional hospitality, high-quality sports and hospitality infrastructures catering to various player profiles (both professionals and amateurs), and an excellent value-for-money ratio,” highlighted Turismo de Portugal in a statement.
According to the organization, golf, through its connection to tourism, “contributes to increased tourism revenue and promotes year-round tourism activities throughout the country.”
The awards were presented at the 11th edition of the World Golf Awards, which took place in Funchal, Madeira.
This year, Madeira earned four distinctions, including the award for “World’s Best Emerging Golf Destination.”
Portugal currently boasts 92 golf courses spread across various regions, with particular emphasis on the Algarve, Lisbon, and Porto and North regions.
The World Golf Awards are voted on by golf industry professionals from over 100 countries and are part of the World Travel Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of Tourism.”
